CelLink, a California-based company that develops flexible circuits for electric vehicles, announced Wednesday that it will open a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Georgetown this summer.

Funding for the factory comes from CelLink’s recent $250 million Series D financing round led by Whale Rock Capital.

CelLink was founded in 2011 to develop high-conductance flexible circuits for the solar, LED, and battery industries. The company’s products have since evolved to flex harnessing, which is used for battery packs and data transmission in electrical vehicles.

“To see this core technology evolve into an entirely new product class that is accelerating the transition away from fossil fuel-based transportation, with amazing customers buying our products and world-class investors supporting our growth, is a dream come true,” CelLink co-founder and CEO Kevin Coakley said in a statement.

CelLink products have been in automotive mass production since 2019 and are already on the road in hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles today.

With the ability to combine multiple legacy product functionalities into a single flex harness, CelLink’s products reduce traditional wire harness weight by more than 70 percent and spatial volume by more than 90 percent, according to the company. When pre-integrated with other vehicle electronics, the flex harnesses allow for more modular and automated vehicle assembly, according to the company.

CelLink plans to hire 2,000 employees for the new facility, making it Georgetown’s largest private-sector employer, according to the Austin Business Journal.

In addition to the new Texas facility, CelLink is also expanding its team of engineers and technology experts at its headquarters in San Carlos, California, and its sales and engineering facility in Novi, Michigan.
